Why is there no voltage drop through this resistor?
I have wired in series: + of 9V battery --- + of 1000 uF capacitor --- 660 Ohm resistor --- + of a green LED --- - of the 9V battery. Remark: the 9V battery is a bit depleted 7.8 V unconnected. Voltage drop across the capactor is 6.5V, across the LED is 1.5V but 0V across the resistor. Why...- trickybilly

How to know that your Arduino can handle a servo motor?
I am very new to electronics. How to know if my Arduino can handle a motor? I have a "Carson-model Sport 500502015 CS3 Reflex racing servo" - is it ok and how to know? Afrotechmods said that plugging a bigger motor (anything that draws more than a few mA) would be bad for an Arduino. How can I...- trickybilly

May I use (is it safe) a 30 year old soldering iron?
I am very new to electronics and only use it as a hobby. My father bought the soldering iron, but never used it. Manufactured in East Germany (DDR). It came with some kind of a "dark cream" and a white thingy - I do not know what are those for. I have started to look at videos on Youtube "how to...- trickybilly

What integrated circuits, etc. for an amateur?
I work with max. 18 V, hobby. Don´t want to mess around with AC. Which integrated circuits to buy to learn/ experiment with: -comparator -opamp -voltage regulators -voltage stabilizers -optocopler -CMOS -TTL -A-D, D-A converters -microprocessors -temperature sensors -timer -quartz crystal I am...- trickybilly

How can you really mess up in amateur electronics?
Thank you for the answers. As a "test bench" I have an ordinary wooden table with 2 drawers (where also my keyboard lies, since I often consult Youtube to do projects). I always see to clear a huge area on the desk to do an experiment - always huge and clear from other items. However there are...- trickybilly

How can you really mess up in amateur electronics?
I work with max. 18V DC current, amateur. I thought the max. thing you can do is to mess up your multimeter, but I saw some capacitors exploding pretty big even on 9V on Youtube. As an utter beginner and with no mentor I would like to know about what to avoid to be safe. I am using max: 18Vs...- trickybilly

What thyristor, triac, diode, transistor for an amateur?
In Serbia, unfortunately I could not find any premade starter kits. However I tend to ask the salesman. Sometimes they miss (got me a 1 microFarad capacitor - what to do with that, while I needed 1000 microFarad for lighting LEDS). That´s why I need information on what to buy.- trickybilly

What thyristor, triac, diode, transistor for an amateur?
Beginner here. Learning about electronics. I would like to play with a thyristor, triac, diode, transistor, diode bridge, etc. using 1,5-9V batteries, wires, multimeter. I am buying a breadboard too. What kind of these you recommend for that purpose? There is a wide variety on the shelves please...- trickybilly

Batteries connected in parallel - Amps won´t add up?
Yes. One 1,5V battery cannot light the bulb up. When I connect batteries in parallel voltage remains the same "1,5V" (regardless of how many batteries I connect), so something else must change since the light NOW shines with 4, 5 or 6 batteries connected in parallel. When you connect batteries...- trickybilly

Batteries connected in parallel - Amps won´t add up?
Batteries are connected in parallel. Multimeter shows: 1,5V AND... "0.12A" regardless of battery number. Volts stay the same but should not Amps add up in parallel? "0.12A" with 4, 5 or 6 batteries... Details: Amps measured correctly by closing the circuit with multimeter probes (bulb lights...- trickybilly
