Something similar happened to one of my friend when he was 12. He was at a party with a friend, and my friend's father who - obviously - drove them there. At one point, his friend mentioned she had to go back home, so he asked his father to take her home. His father told him he was too drunk to drive, so he tossed him the keys to his Cadillac to drive her home, which he did! That was in the early '80s.

Police are asking kids to stop pulling AI homeless man prank
The premise is simple enough: kids use Snapchat’s AI tools to create images of a grimy man in their home and tell their parents they let them in to use the bathroom, take a nap, or just get a drink of water. Often they say the person claims to know the parents from work or college. And then, predictably, the parents lose their cool and demand they kick the man out. The kids, of course, record the whole thing, and post their parents reactions to TikTok, where some of the clips have millions of views.

SeaWorld Guest Files Lawsuit After Allegedly Being Knocked Unconscious by Duck While on Ride

"According to court documents obtained by ABC News, Orange County, Florida resident Hillary Martin claimed she was injured during her March 2025 SeaWorld visit when a duck “flew into the path” of the amusement park’s Mako roller coaster while she was on the ride."

This seems to me like a very American hobby: suing anybody for anything. I don't think that could happen in Germany.

Henceforth there will be one more addition to the amusement park ticket purchase disclaimer; "you may be hit by a bird which could result in serious injury or death"... problem solved.

But seriously, anyone in the USA can file a lawsuit for anything. But that doesn't mean they will win. Yet another BS news story. Entertaining but useless, meaningless, click bait.

Many years ago, I was driving a limo for executives at Domino's Pizza's corporate headquarters. I remember a conversation with one executive while driving him to the airport where he told me about a lawsuit that they had to deal with. While one of their drivers was stopped in a left turn lane waiting for a light, there was a traffic accident nearby. One of the cars came to rest against his car so they were suing the company for something or other. This was when they had their 30 minute guarantee in the 80's so probably related to that. I'm guessing that the person didn't win that lawsuit but Domino's still had to spend time and resources to fight it. Sue-happy Americans have been around for a long time.

The mechanical shark used for the movie JAWS was named Bruce.

He was named after Spielberg's lawyer.

Dramatic incident on flight to Frankfurt – man stabs passengers

According to a report by the Massachusetts State Attorney's Office, a passenger attacked two teenagers with a metal fork while flying a Lufthansa plane. He stabbed a 17-year-old in the collarbone and another in the back of the head. During the attack, he reportedly shouted "Allahu Akbar" and the word "Hijack," as reported by Der Spiegel.

The Lufthansa flight (ORD-FRA) subsequently aborted its journey to Frankfurt Airport and landed in Boston.

Comment: I don't get it. If you start such a stupid endeavour, then the only question left is in which country do you want to go to prison? I don't think the USA was the optimal choice.

Woman presumed dead: Knocking sounds from coffin prevent cremation

The family assumed that 65-year-old Chonthirot had died. To arrange for her burial, the supposedly deceased woman was taken to a crematorium. There, it was dramatically revealed that the relatives hadn't yet had to say goodbye to her. The family takes her 360 kilometers to the crematorium.

It is not enough that they got hurt at the park. The onus is on the plaintiff to prove negligence on the park's part. I guess there is always the slim chance that they will make the case.

Although there's a fair chance that the park will just throw "shut up" money at them. And I think that's the idea.

https://www.tomshardware.com/laptop...ny-counts-may-have-caused-usd46-000-in-damage
A PhD engineering student at UC Berkeley seemed to be extremely unfortunate, with computer after computer failing, racking up repair bills into the thousands of dollars. Their professor “smelled a rat,” reports The Mercury News, so they set up a laptop to record anything that might happen to the unlucky student’s hardware when it was left unattended. According to a cited police report, another PhD student was subsequently caught on video using an implement to vandalize their rival’s device, causing "sparks to fly out of the laptop,"

Blackout in San Francisco Litters Streets with Traffic-Blocking, Deactivated Waymos
https://gizmodo.com/blackout-in-san...raffic-blocking-deactivated-waymos-2000702290

There was a power outage in San Francisco on Saturday, initially leaving 124,000 of 414,000 customers—about 30%—in the dark. It also caused a widespread Waymo meltdown, with apparently all active Waymo robotaxis in the affected parts of the city stuck in robotic comas, blocking intersections and choking traffic on some streets.

A wee bit glitchy. So much for autonomous technology.

Imagine these people maintaining legacy-code on a virtual POSIX box on an IBM mainframe. It would be funny if it wasn't so tragic.

EDIT: Seriously, our economic reality is based on it!

Details have been revealed as to how hackers were able to change audio messages at crosswalks in various cities on the Peninsula.

In April, hackers managed to access the control system of some Caltrans-installed crosswalks in Palo Alto, Menlo Park and Redwood City.

The usual crosswalk messages were replaced by AI voices of Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg.

A high-school student has achieved another coding feat, getting a lightweight Linux distribution to run inside a PDF document.

Ading2210 developed LinuxPDF for Google Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers by leveraging a version of TinyEMU, a RISC-V emulator, that has been modified to run inside a PDF.

I had to look up the company owning and operating the manufaturing facility. It is a private family owned company, Cafua Management Company. "The 93,500-square-foot factory (in Haverhill, Massachusetts), built just this year, is the largest bakery for Dunkin’ in the U.S. and serves more than 200 Dunkin’ stores run by Cafua Management Company, the largest Dunkin’ franchisee in the U.S.," according to an article in NY Post. The plant produces about 1 million donuts per day.
