AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around a game where participants create cryptic clues that hint at the usernames of members from the Physics Forums. Players attempt to guess the usernames based on the clues provided, often engaging in reasoning and collaborative problem-solving. Examples of clues include "fancy Russian included," which led to the answer "cyrus," and "disenfranchize, without Che inside," which resulted in "franznietzsche." The game encourages creativity and linguistic play, with participants sharing their thought processes and explanations for their guesses. As the game progresses, several clues remain unsolved, prompting players to offer hints or additional clues. The atmosphere is light-hearted, with humor and camaraderie evident among participants as they navigate the challenges of the cryptic clues.

In this game, I make up cryptic clues that reveal the usernames of PF members. Other folks guess the names and provide the reasoning.

See Part I for examples and some solutions.

When I'm tired or worse, exhausted, I'll open the clue making to the rest of you.

Here's an example (courtesy Icvotria, for the clue and HMS for the solution): A yearly chant in the morning reflected

Answer: Yomamma

Reasoning:
Yearly = Y
Chant = Om
Morning = AM
Reflected (AM) = MA

Here we go!

1. fancy Russian included

2. disenfranchize, without Che inside

3. see no jogger stumbling

4. handheld firework, somewhat spoonerized

5. the French back

6. In short, are you Schutzstaffel?

7. be a moron, silly!

This game is too hard, I quit.

Why don't you just mix up the letters order or something. :smile:

Yeah, why don't I?

Note: Some of the answers may be commonly used contractions of the complete usernames (eg: Greg, for Greg Berhardt).

6 ends on ss, whatever else it is :frown:

I have no clue what #2 is saying, but I would think an obvious guess would be franznietzsche

Close...or R U ?

That's the answer! Anyone got an explanation?

#4 rocketboy. Bottle Rocket as the firefwork, and the spoonerism comes in with the switching of the letters "bo" at the end of the username?

2. disenfranchize, without Che inside

franchize - che = franize

#1 is Ivan?

Good guess, but that's not what I had in mind.

That's much closer, but not completely right, as you can see.

#1 is Ivan?
Ha ha, no.

1. Could also be Tsu, since she "includes" on occasion a fancy russian? :confused:

Of course it is! I'd like to see his reaction to this though. :biggrin:

In short, are you Schutzstaffel?

In short => abbreviate or contract

are = R
you = U
Schutzstaffel = SS

Even if it's obvious, please include the reasoning henceforth.

Nope, try again. Cyrus was pretty close, but didn't go all the way with the logic.

1. Could also be Tsu, since she "includes" on occasion a fancy russian?
No it's not, gutterbrain!

  • #19
wait... :smile:

#4: Larkspur? The firework being Sparkler, and the spoonerized part being the reversal, but somewhat off.

No, wollie, it doesn't.

You're making a small mistake with the letters. Do it again - carefully, this time.

Also, in general, I rarely use words superfluously in the clues. Every word will likely have a role.

You clever A-hole.

Inside - disen******i**

che

disenfranchize- disen******i**-che = franz

1. fancy Russian included

Rach3?

1. fanCy RUSsian included

Is it me?

  • #31
I thought of Dimitry Terr(yn) since he is sort of cute and (yn=in), but I don't think I am right with that.
Besides, I won't suggest this, because then I will be called a gutterbrain again.:frown:

Yes it is, cyrus.

'Included' indicates that the answer is directly embedded or hidden in the rest of the clue.

damn, arildno beat me. The link above is to the profile page for the user "a moron"

Nah! That's too direct. And there'd be too many superfluous words in the clue, if that were to be the answer.

Correct George!

7. be a moron, silly
'silly' indicates there's an anagram involved - jumble 'be a moron' to get moonbear.

And for George's response, I believe he's talking about Warren Moon and Paul "Bear" Bryant

Who do you think we are to solve these man, Ken Jennings?

Not to someone that knows the answer (and a little bit about football - can't help it, I'm a Buckeye).

11. Only a resumé? O, that's strange!

The next one is a wee bit of a stretch...so be warned.

12. It flows through an Ouroboros.

No cyrus - unless you have an explanation that beats my fairly convoluted one.
