AI Thread Summary
Seismologists have detected a subtle global hum characterized by Love waves, which are side-to-side surface seismic waves lasting two to five minutes. Named after AEH Love, who developed models for solid body tides, these waves have been observed at some of the least active seismic stations on Earth. The phenomenon remains unexplained, prompting discussions about its significance and relevance in the field of seismology. The report highlights the mystery surrounding these vibrations, which have sparked interest and skepticism within the scientific community.

I would love for there to be love waves.

Why is this in Skepticism and Debunking? These are called Love waves because they are named after AEH Love, the same person who developed models for solid body tides in planetary objects. The cited ABC report is a summary of an article in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

It appears to be unexplained, which makes it appropriate for S&D.

Aww man, this thread isn't nearly cool enough as the title makes it out to be.
