The discussion revolves around how to share files between two computers connected to the same local area network (LAN) over the internet. Participants explore the technical aspects of network addressing and file sharing methods, particularly in the context of using Windows XP.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation, Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about file sharing between two computers on the same network, suggesting they have the same network address.
  • Another participant corrects the first by stating that computers cannot have the same network address, clarifying that they likely share a single address assigned to their router.
  • A further response indicates that the computers are indeed on the same local area network, and one participant specifies they are using Windows XP.
  • A link to a Microsoft support page is provided, suggesting that rebooting the computers may be necessary for shared folders to appear on the network.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

There is disagreement regarding the interpretation of network addressing, with some participants clarifying the distinction between local and router addresses. The discussion does not reach a consensus on the best method for file sharing.

Contextual Notes

Participants have not fully resolved the implications of network addressing and its impact on file sharing capabilities. The discussion lacks detailed steps or methods for file sharing specific to Windows XP.

They can't have the same network address. What you probably mean that you have one network address assigned to your router, and both computers are plugged into the router.

Do you have Windows Vista? Or XP?

no i don't mean that they are connected to the same router, what i meant is, the 2 computers are connected to the same local area network(both take from the same network)...i have windows XP
