SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the decision-making process for selecting a minor while pursuing a bachelor's degree in Physics. The two options presented are a minor in Mathematics, which includes courses such as Complex Analysis, Group Theory, and Differential Equations, and a minor in Physics, featuring courses like Analytical Mechanics and Quantum Mechanics 2. Participants emphasize the importance of personal preferences and career goals in making this choice, as well as the potential implications of majoring in one field while minoring in another.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of undergraduate degree structures in Physics and Mathematics
  • Familiarity with course content in Complex Analysis and Quantum Mechanics
  • Knowledge of the implications of choosing a major versus a minor
  • Awareness of career paths related to Physics and Mathematics
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the career opportunities available for Physics majors with a Mathematics minor
  • Explore the curriculum and prerequisites for courses in Complex Analysis and Quantum Mechanics 2
  • Investigate the benefits of interdisciplinary studies between Mathematics and Physics
  • Consider attending academic advising sessions to discuss personal academic goals
USEFUL FOR

Students pursuing a bachelor's degree in Physics or Mathematics, academic advisors, and individuals considering interdisciplinary studies in STEM fields.

In the second year of my bachelor in physics, we must choose a minor, but I'm indeciseve between choosing a minor in Mathematics that has courses like : Complex Analysis; Group Theory; Linear Analysis, Introduction to Topology, Differential Equations, etc.. and the minor in Physics that has courses like: Analytical Mechanics; Astrophyiscs; Computacional Physics; Quantum Mechanics 2; Physics of Condesed Matter, etc..
What should I choose?
Thank you all, for your opinions!

Nobody can make that decision for you. People have different preferences and without knowing yours it is impossible to give you any input. What do you think and why?

Not sure I understand. If you are majoring in Physics, how can you minor in Physics as well? If you choose to minor in Physics, what would you switch your major to?

Are you asking about the differences in advantages between Major in Physics with Minor in Mathematics; and Major in Mathematics with Minor in Physics?
