Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the decision-making process for selecting a minor in a bachelor's program in physics, specifically between a minor in Mathematics and a minor in Physics. Participants explore the implications of each choice, including the types of courses offered in both minors.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses indecision between a Mathematics minor, which includes courses like Complex Analysis and Group Theory, and a Physics minor, which includes courses like Analytical Mechanics and Quantum Mechanics 2.
  • Another participant states that the decision is subjective and depends on personal preferences, suggesting that without knowing the original poster's interests, it is difficult to provide guidance.
  • A third participant questions the feasibility of minoring in Physics while majoring in it, prompting clarification on the intended academic path.
  • A later reply seeks to clarify whether the original poster is inquiring about the advantages of a Major in Physics with a Minor in Mathematics versus a Major in Mathematics with a Minor in Physics.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the best choice for a minor, as opinions vary based on personal preferences and interpretations of the academic structure.

Contextual Notes

The discussion does not resolve the assumptions regarding the academic program structure or the specific advantages of each minor.

In the second year of my bachelor in physics, we must choose a minor, but I'm indeciseve between choosing a minor in Mathematics that has courses like : Complex Analysis; Group Theory; Linear Analysis, Introduction to Topology, Differential Equations, etc.. and the minor in Physics that has courses like: Analytical Mechanics; Astrophyiscs; Computacional Physics; Quantum Mechanics 2; Physics of Condesed Matter, etc..
What should I choose?
Thank you all, for your opinions!

Nobody can make that decision for you. People have different preferences and without knowing yours it is impossible to give you any input. What do you think and why?

Not sure I understand. If you are majoring in Physics, how can you minor in Physics as well? If you choose to minor in Physics, what would you switch your major to?

Are you asking about the differences in advantages between Major in Physics with Minor in Mathematics; and Major in Mathematics with Minor in Physics?
