Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the simulation of airbags, specifically exploring how to create accurate simulations using software like SolidWorks and other specialized codes. Participants share their experiences and knowledge regarding the complexities involved in simulating the deployment of airbags, including the necessary software capabilities.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses curiosity about how airbags work and seeks guidance on simulating them, particularly using SolidWorks.
  • Another participant suggests that SolidWorks may not be suitable for simulating airbag deployment, recommending the use of codes capable of handling highly non-linear dynamics, such as LS-DYNA.
  • A third participant agrees that simulating airbags is challenging and emphasizes the need for non-linear explicit dynamics simulation codes like LS-DYNA, mentioning the availability of relevant academic papers.
  • One participant notes that LS-DYNA has specific algorithms for simulating the initial unfolding of airbags and contrasts the difficulty of creating visually appealing simulations with the challenge of achieving accuracy compared to real high-speed footage of airbag deployment.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the complexity of simulating airbags and the necessity of using specialized software for accurate results. However, there is no consensus on the capabilities of SolidWorks for this purpose, as opinions vary regarding its effectiveness compared to other simulation codes.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include the dependence on specific software capabilities and the challenges associated with achieving realistic simulations that match real-world dynamics.

Stimulating "Airbags"

Recently I'm into it on Airbags and really want to know how it works
I've seen some airbags stimulation on YouTube and I'm curious on how to do it?
Anyone have experience doing it?
Can Solidwork produce such stimulation?
PS:Immma Poor English It's Simulation instead of Stimulation Duhhh

SolidWorks mostly likely cannot (depending on what you want to simulate). If you want to simulate an airbag deploying, then you'd need a code that can do highly non-linear dynamics, such as LS-DYNA (Abaqus and MSC can do it as well, but probably not as well as LS-DYNA).

IIRC, LS-Dyna has some algorithms specifically for simulating airbags, in particular the initial "unfolding" of the bag from "empty".

Making a nice-looking video isn't too hard, with any reasonable non-linear dynamics code. The hard part is making a video that looks the same as a high speed movie of deploying a real airbag!
