SUMMARY

This discussion centers on the lack of comprehensive books or resources compiling mathematical and physics notation. Participants reference several online lists, including Wikipedia's "List of Mathematical Symbols by Subject" and "List of Common Physics Notations," highlighting that while these resources exist, they may not cover all variations or usages of symbols. The consensus is that notation can vary significantly among authors, making it challenging to find a definitive compilation. Users express appreciation for the thoroughness of the shared lists, acknowledging their limitations.

PREREQUISITES
  • Familiarity with mathematical symbols and their applications.
  • Understanding of physics notation and its context.
  • Basic knowledge of online research methods for academic resources.
  • Ability to interpret variations in notation across different authors and texts.
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore the "List of Mathematical Symbols by Subject" on Wikipedia for a comprehensive overview.
  • Review the "List of Common Physics Notations" on Wikipedia to understand standard symbols used in physics.
  • Investigate resources on how notation varies among different mathematical and physics authors.
  • Search for academic papers or articles discussing the evolution of mathematical and physics notation.
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for students, educators, and researchers in mathematics and physics who seek to understand the complexities of notation and its variations across different texts and authors.

TL;DR
I'm looking for a good resource that has a list of almost all notations and a brief description of what they mean and how they're used.
A bit vague, I know, but I guess asking is worth a shot.

Here are some lists of mathematical symbols:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mathematical_symbols_by_subjecthttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mathematical_symbolshttps://www.rapidtables.com/math/symbols/Basic_Math_Symbols.html
But this doesn't mean that authors won't use them differently, or that they are complete, or that it is unique. The same is true for physics, if not even to a greater extent.

You probably won't find a "book" with it.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I found the wikipedia tables myself also. But, your list is thorough and appreciated.
