I am enjoying it, in spite of the fact that I'm not usually a fan of modern military intrigue.

Just finished Season 1. I cannot shake the annoyance at the gaping plot hole in the last five minutes of the finale.

In the last ep of S1, Suleiman's plan is to release a bunch of Ebola cannisters in a hospital. He has a cell phone that, when he dials the right number, it will detonate the devices, releasing the virus. The plan is discovered and the first thing they do is blackout the entire area to cell transmissions. His plot is foiled! He escapes the hospital with the intent of getting out from under the blackout dome so that he can get a signal again and transmit his message.

To where??? The hospital and surrounding area is still under the blackout dome! He can send his message all he wants, it's not going to get to the devices!

They make big deal of him escaping and a big chase ensues, ending in him getting far enough away that he can get a signal. Jack stops him in his tracks, but is he too late?? Suleiman dials the number just as Jack takes him down. Jack picks up the phone, which is in the midst of connecting - and closes it - saving the day in the nick of time!

No.

Did they just forget the blackoout dome that prevents any signals getting out of or into the hospital?

Grr.

Hey, it's a TV show. Reality is not part of the deal.

What kind of "blackout dome"? Active jamming or just shutting down nearby towers? I can see a way to get a signal to the hospital receiver if there's no active jamming locally.

I only read one book with Jack Ryan and while it's also not my usual style I have to admit I enjoyed it.

Just ONCE, I wanted to see a post titled Status Update that was not a blatant, annoying spam post by a new member. So here it is. Today was a good day here in Northern Wisconsin. Fall colors are here, no mosquitos, no deer flies, and mild temperature, so my morning run was unusually nice. Only two meetings today, and both went well. The deer that was road killed just down the road two weeks ago is now fully decomposed, so no more smell. Somebody has a spike buck skull for their...
Thread 'In the early days of electricity, they didn't have wall plugs'
Hello scientists, engineers, etc. I have not had any questions for you recently, so have not participated here. I was scanning some material and ran across these 2 ads. I had posted them at another forum, and I thought you may be interested in them as well. History is fascinating stuff! Some houses may have had plugs, but many homes just screwed the appliance into the light socket overhead. Does anyone know when electric wall plugs were in widespread use? 1906 ad DDTJRAC Even big...
