Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around recommendations for books on Applied Mechanics, with an emphasis on both the physics perspective and practical applications within mechanical engineering.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant requests book recommendations that cover both the physics and practical applications of mechanics.
  • Another participant questions the feasibility of studying mechanics without a physics perspective, suggesting that understanding the fundamentals is essential.
  • A later reply clarifies that the original poster seeks a mechanical engineering perspective in addition to physics, indicating a desire for a broader understanding.
  • There is an acknowledgment of a misunderstanding regarding the original request, highlighting the importance of careful reading in discussions.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on the necessity of a physics foundation for studying mechanics, with some emphasizing its importance while others focus on the practical applications in engineering.

Contextual Notes

The discussion reflects varying interpretations of the relationship between physics and practical mechanics, with no consensus on the best approach to studying the subject.

What book would you recommend on Applied Mechanics? I wish to not only obtain the physics view; I also wish to obtain the practical applications of mechanics.

huh? How do you study mechanics while not studying the physics view. That's like wanting to learn how to build a house without wanting to learn how to use a hammer.

Sorry. I am not saying I wish to study mechanics without the physics view. I am saying I also wish to obtain the mechanical engineering view and am asking for a recommended book.

ha, I misread your post. oops. I missed the word 'only' in your post.
