The discussion revolves around a nerdiness test taken by forum members, with various participants sharing their scores and interpretations of what those scores mean. Many users express amusement at their results, with some claiming to be "Supreme Nerds" while others identify as "Somewhat Nerdy" or "Mid-Level Nerds." The test seems to provoke self-reflection about personal interests and social identities, with some participants joking about their nerdy traits, such as owning telescopes or knowing their IP addresses. There is also a critique of the test's relevance, with suggestions that it may be outdated and could benefit from updated questions reflecting current technology use. Participants discuss the ease of manipulating scores based on how they answer certain questions, leading to a conversation about the test's accuracy and potential improvements. Overall, the thread captures a light-hearted exploration of nerd culture and self-identification among users.

This is the second time you two have matched so closely on a quiz posted here. It's a match made in cyber-heaven!
Heh, we just went over the test and if he hadn't answered a question wrong, he'd have scored 97% nerd. :-p

Overall, you scored as follows:

3% scored higher (more nerdy), and
97% scored lower (less nerdy).

What does this mean? Your nerdiness is:

All hail the monstrous nerd. You are by far the SUPREME NERD GOD!

We're throwing off the average

21% scored higher (more nerdy), and
79% scored lower (less nerdy).

What does this mean? Your nerdiness is:

Mid-Level Nerd. Wow, it takes a lot of hard nerdy practice to reach this level.

God I only got 52% scored higher, I'm starting to feel bad about not owning a microscope or a telescope, and having a social life?

isnt this a little like asking "how conservative are you?" on the NRA website?

No it's exactly like that.

I just wanted to see how I compare.

Actually to be honest I thought it'd be a giggle.

I do have both a microscope and a telescope in the house. When I was younger, a great deal of my time was taken up by making my own slides.
I think my microscope is still at my parents' house. I haven't used it a good 15 years, though.

Maybe I'm getting less nerdy (doubt it), but for the first time ever, I can't remember what processor my desktop computer has. And while I've never known my IP address, I do have my work IP on a post-it in my wallet...

If I didn't have a dynamic IP I'd know the address. Aw :frown:

Not only do I know my IP address, but I also know what an IP address is in fact I even have an x25 address, but I am hardly a nerd, more of a geek:
24% scored higher (more nerdy), and
76% scored lower (less nerdy).

0% scored the same, and
95% scored lower (less nerdy).

I wish they told how they weight the different responses.

I think that having a static IP address in order to know it is what really gains the nerd points there.

You can still know the range, like mine starts with 80.42.163 or something like that. I got 78th percentile.

I had to lie on the calculator question. TI was my favorite among those listed, but I personally like the Pickett N4-ES Hyperbolic Dual Base Speed Rule.

I think the test discriminates against the analog crowd.

10% scored higher (more nerdy),
1% scored the same, and
89% scored lower (less nerdy).

Considering I made my own Telescope (5 or 6 of them actually) and microscope, I should have thought I would have scored higher. I think I lost points because I have friends.

You also need an old bamboo and ivory slide rule in a heavy leather belt holster (voice of experience, here!).
