SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the validity of the associative operation involving four vectors, specifically the equation 2*(p+p_1)p_3(p+p_1)p_2 - (p_3)(p_2)(p+p_1)^2 = (p_3)(p_2)(p+p_1)^2. Participants express confusion regarding the multiplication order and suggest using LaTeX for clarity. The consensus indicates that the associative property may not hold in this context, requiring further mathematical exploration.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of vector operations in linear algebra
  • Familiarity with the associative property of multiplication
  • Basic knowledge of LaTeX for mathematical formatting
  • Experience with algebraic manipulation of expressions
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the properties of vector multiplication in linear algebra
  • Learn how to format mathematical expressions using LaTeX
  • Explore examples of associative and non-associative operations
  • Investigate the implications of vector operations in physics and engineering
USEFUL FOR

Mathematicians, physics students, and anyone studying vector algebra or exploring the properties of vector operations.

hi,

Is it true that

2*(p+p_1)p_3(p+p_1)p_2 - (p_3)(p_2)(p+p_1)^2 = (p_3)(p_2)(p+p_1)^2 ,

where p,p_1,p_2,p_3 are four vectors? Or simply: associative this operation?
