The recent opening of an axe throwing venue near the university indicates a growing trend in recreational activities, despite some skepticism regarding its long-term popularity. This establishment, along with similar venues that have emerged in cities like Philadelphia, suggests that axe throwing is gaining traction as a fun, albeit potentially fleeting, fad. The discussion also touches on the cultural nuances of spelling "axe" versus "ax," highlighting a playful debate among participants. A front page story in my local paper says an "axe throwing venue" has opened near the university. There is a photo of a man, appropriately masked against the coronavirus, throwing a hatchet. Is this type of establishment becoming popular?

Wouldn't a genuine axe thrower think hatchet throwing is a sissy sport?

Yes, a handful have popped up in Philadelphia in the past few years. It's probably a fad, but it is fun.

Have Americans learned how to spell 'axe'? Didn't they used to think it was 'ax'? What happened happened?

Axe throwing is a reasonably popular activity in the Bushcraft world, it's used for hunting.

Indoor axe throwing joint opened in town last spring or so. I think it closed during the Covid-19 lockdown and hasn't reopened. I am pretty sure it is a franchise.
