SUMMARY

To begin learning basic mechanical engineering, prospective students should explore online resources such as the free MIT OpenCourseWare lectures. These lectures provide foundational knowledge essential for understanding mechanical engineering concepts. Participants should have a basic understanding of physics, particularly dynamics, and a grasp of calculus to effectively engage with the material. This preparation will facilitate a smoother transition into formal mechanical engineering courses.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of physics, particularly dynamics
  • Knowledge of calculus
  • Familiarity with online learning platforms
  • Motivation to engage with engineering concepts
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore MIT OpenCourseWare for mechanical engineering lectures
  • Research introductory mechanical engineering textbooks
  • Investigate online platforms like Coursera or edX for relevant courses
  • Join forums or study groups focused on mechanical engineering topics
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for prospective mechanical engineering students, educators seeking resources, and anyone interested in foundational engineering principles.

Where can I learn some basic mechanical engineering, I am thinking of applying for a course on ME and I wanted to know what I am getting into, is there a online course that you guys recommend?. I have a some physics knowledge with basic dynamics but nothing differential. and maths up to basic calculus.

Welcome to the PF.

I googled Mechanical Engineering Learning Resources, and got lots of good hits. The first one on the list is the free MIT OpenCourseWare lectures:
