SUMMARY

This discussion focuses on selecting graduate schools for High Energy Physics (HEP) and Condensed Matter Theory (CMT). Participants recommend exploring both top-tier and lesser-known universities with strong research groups in these fields. Key resources mentioned include the US News rankings for graduate schools, specifically the links for string theory and condensed matter rankings. The conversation emphasizes the importance of insights from individuals with experience in these disciplines for making informed decisions.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of High Energy Physics (HEP) and Condensed Matter Theory (CMT)
  • Familiarity with graduate school application processes
  • Knowledge of academic rankings and their relevance in physics
  • Basic research skills to evaluate university programs
NEXT STEPS
  • Research specific graduate programs in High Energy Physics
  • Investigate universities with strong Condensed Matter Theory groups
  • Review US News rankings for graduate schools in physics
  • Connect with professionals in HEP and CMT for firsthand insights
USEFUL FOR

Hi, thank you for reading this. I am applying to grad school this year and I'm basically torn between High Energy Physics (theory) and Condensed Matter Theory. Could you recommend me some universities that have good programs in this field? Also feel free to include school that aren't top tier but with strong groups in these fields.

Physics news on Phys.org
Bump.

Yes, I've heard of that site but I understand that they might not necessarily know what they're talking about when it comes to physics. I was hoping that maybe someone who has worked in these fields could give me some hints...

According to US NEWS they do ask of the people that work in those fields to rate them.
