Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around calculating the curl of a vector field F defined as F(x,y,z) = cos(x)i + sin(y)j + exyk at the point (1,1,1). Participants are seeking confirmation of their computed results for the curl.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Assumption checking

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants share their calculations of the curl and express uncertainty about the correctness of their answers. There is a focus on ensuring the evaluation point is clear, with some participants questioning the initial setup.

Discussion Status

Multiple participants have provided their computed results for the curl, with some noting corrections to their previous answers. The conversation reflects an ongoing verification process without a definitive consensus on the correct answer yet.

Contextual Notes

There is an emphasis on the importance of specifying the evaluation point for the curl, which was initially overlooked by some participants. This has led to adjustments in their calculations.

Homework Statement

Calculate the curl F:

F(x,y,z) = cos(x)i + sin(y)j + exyk at point (1,1,1)

Homework Equations

The Attempt at a Solution

After calculating ∇×F, my answer was:

curl F = 2.72i + 2.72j + 0k

I'd appreciate a confirmation of my answer.

No answer is possible until you say at what point you are evaluating the curl. Come on.

Sorry. Point noted in question.

Yeah, my over sight. But I'm getting [e,-e,0]. My sorry. Can you check that again?

Yeah, my answer should be [e,-e,0]. I forgot to put a negative on the second rather than a positive.

Answer should be:

curl F = 2.72i - 2.72j + 0k

or

curl F = ei - ej + 0k

Then I'll confirm that.
