SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on calculating the electrode erosion rate in an arc gas environment, highlighting the intersection of physics and electrochemistry. The participant concluded that empirical experimentation is essential for obtaining accurate data, as existing literature does not provide sufficient information for their specific modeling needs. They found assistance on a high energy physics forum, confirming the necessity of hands-on experimentation to derive the required metrics.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of electrochemistry principles
  • Familiarity with arc discharge phenomena
  • Knowledge of experimental design and data collection methods
  • Basic principles of high energy physics
NEXT STEPS
  • Research methods for measuring electrode erosion in arc discharge scenarios
  • Explore experimental setups for gas arc experiments
  • Study the effects of different gas compositions on electrode performance
  • Investigate existing models of electrode erosion in electrochemical systems
USEFUL FOR

Researchers in electrochemistry, physicists studying arc phenomena, and engineers involved in electrode design and testing will benefit from this discussion.

So I'm pretty sure this falls into both the realms of physics and electrochemistry. How would I calculate the rate of erosion of an electrode if it were sustaining an arc in a gas?

I'm sorry you are not finding help at the moment. Is there any additional information you can share with us?

Ahh sorry I missed this one. I got the answer I needed on the high energy physics forum. Turns out that basically the only way to get the data I want is to experiment myself since no one has it available for the system I'm modeling.
