Can an embedded Google Sheet be made editable in a thread?

AI Thread Summary
Embedded Google Sheets in forum threads are view-only by default, preventing users from modifying cell contents directly. To enable editing, users must provide a separate text link to the sheet with customized text. This involves creating a hyperlink in a text document, editing the hyperlink to change its display name, and then copying and pasting it into the thread. The discussion highlights the importance of understanding how links are transformed within forums to facilitate user access. Overall, learning to create customized links enhances user interaction with shared Google Sheets.

I did a test with the permissions set as show below. The link was copied. I then created a thread and pasted the link into it.

I could see the Google Sheet in the thread but could not modify its cell contents.

Is there some trick to making this work?

Here's the Google Sheet:

Embeds are view only. If you want to allow edit access, provide a text link to the sheet in addition.

Insert it as a link with customized text like so: editable google sheet. Otherwise, the forum recognizes the URL as a google sheet and transforms it to show the media content.

Thanks for the answers. I will learn how to create "a link with customized text".

I learned one way to create a link with customized text:
1- Create an OpenOffice Writer (text) document.
2- Paste-in the link that needs customized text.
3- Right click on the link and 'Edit Hyperlink'
4- The 'Text...' box can be edited with the desired link name.
5- Highlight the whole link (left click and move the mouse to select all the text in the link) and then copy.
6- The link with its new name can now be pasted.

On a side note - at 66 years old I really still do enjoy learning new things.
Not too long ago I memorized the Tom Lehrer song 'The Elements'. I can do it my sleep, and this probably explains why I'm not married:

"There's antimony arsenic aluminum selenium and hydrogen and oxygen and ... and ... Honey, why are you packing your bags?"

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
This came up in my job today (UXP). Never thought to raise it here on PF till now. Hyperlinks really should be underlined at all times. PF only underlines them when they are rolled over. Colour alone (especially dark blue/purple) makes it difficult to spot a hyperlink in a large block of text (or even a small one). Not everyone can see perfectly. Even if they don't suffer from colour deficiency, not everyone has the visual acuity to distinguish two very close shades of text. Hover actions...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
