Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the notation used in cryptography, specifically whether the function can be represented as E(M,K) = C instead of the traditional Ek(M) = C. The inquiry touches on the implications of notation in the context of cryptographic functions.

Discussion Character

  • Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions the notation used in cryptography, suggesting that E(M,K) = C may be more appropriate due to the dependency of E on K.
  • Another participant points out that the issue may be more about stylistic preference rather than a strict mathematical necessity.
  • A participant notes that the attached file containing a picture is unreadable, indicating a potential communication issue.
  • Subsequent posts attempt to rectify the issue with the attachment, showing a concern for clarity in the discussion.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on whether the notation should be changed, as the discussion includes both stylistic considerations and functional dependencies without a definitive resolution.

Contextual Notes

The discussion does not resolve the implications of changing the notation, nor does it clarify the potential impact on understanding cryptographic functions.

I was just reading a cryptography book and have a question about something the author states I highlighed the statement in yellow and included a pictures.
So I was wondering if the function could be written as E(M,K) = C instead of Ek(M)=C since the fact that E is dependent on K. If not why couldn't you write it as this?

Thanks

It is more a matter of style than anything else.
