Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the feasibility of Volkswagen Beetles (VW Bugs) running on water, exploring various experiments and possibilities related to this concept. The scope includes anecdotal evidence, personal experiences, and humorous commentary rather than technical analysis or scientific validation.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants express excitement about the idea of VW Bugs running on water, with one participant sharing a video link as a point of interest.
  • There is humorous commentary regarding cultural perceptions, with a participant referencing Iceland and its association with Bjork.
  • One participant mentions the existence of kits designed to raise the exhaust of VW Bugs above water level, allowing the engine to run while floating, although they have not seen this in practice.
  • Anecdotal evidence is provided by a participant who recalls seeing a car float during an attempt to cross a flooded area, although they are unsure if it was a VW Bug.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally express enthusiasm and curiosity about the topic, but there is no consensus on the practicality or effectiveness of VW Bugs running on water. Multiple viewpoints and anecdotal claims remain without resolution.

Contextual Notes

The discussion lacks technical details or scientific evidence regarding the mechanics of water propulsion in vehicles. Assumptions about the feasibility of floating cars and the effectiveness of kits are not substantiated.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals interested in automotive modifications, experimental vehicle designs, or humorous takes on unconventional vehicle capabilities may find this discussion engaging.

Which one ? or did you mean one of each ?:approve:

It's a new species of basilisk on steroids.

I heard they sell kits for VW bugs that raise the exhaust above water level, which allows them to keep the engine running while floating. I've never seen or heard of anyone using it that way. I have seen a car floating once when it tried to cross a flooded wash in Arizona. I can't remember if it was a bug or not, but it floated pretty well too.
