Can you help me have a general view on cosmology and astrophysics?

AI Thread Summary
A new department for high energy physics and cosmology has been established at a college, marking the first of its kind in the country. Students are seeking guidance on cosmology and astrophysics, expressing a lack of resources in their library, which only contains outdated astronomy books. Forum members suggest finding good introductory books and offer to share materials and links via private messages. There is a discussion about how to send private messages without sharing personal email addresses publicly. The conversation emphasizes the need for updated educational resources in cosmology at the college.

Our college has just established a new department: laboratory of high energy physics and cosmology. And it is the first in our country. We are first students, too. Can you help me have a general view on cosmology and astrophysics?
We only know little about some constellations and solar system.:frown:
Thank you very much.

try pick up a good introductory book from your library or book store, we are willing to guide which ones that are good if you tells us which one you can get a copy of.

Also I have some good material on my computer and some links, send me a private message and I give you my email.

Cheers

Thank you very much!

There isn't any book about cosmology in our college's library. It only has few books about general astronomy. But they are published some decades ago, and only introduces to some planets.

How can I send you a message? What's your email address? Mine is lava122@yahoo.com.

Thanks very much!

You should try to change that...

TL;DR Summary: In 3 years, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope (or rather, a system of telescopes) should be put into operation. In case of failure to detect alien signals, it will further expand the radius of the so-called silence (or rather, radio silence) of the Universe. Is there any sense in this or is blissful ignorance better? In 3 years, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope (or rather, a system of telescopes) should be put into operation. Thread 'Could gamma-ray bursts have an intragalactic origin?'
This is indirectly evidenced by a map of the distribution of gamma-ray bursts in the night sky, made in the form of an elongated globe. And also the weakening of gamma radiation by the disk and the center of the Milky Way, which leads to anisotropy in the possibilities of observing gamma-ray bursts. My line of reasoning is as follows: 1. Gamma radiation should be absorbed to some extent by dust and other components of the interstellar medium. As a result, with an extragalactic origin, fewer...

Your posts, clips and photos may by all means include scientific information; that does not make it less beautiful to me (n.b. the posts must of course comply with the PF guidelines, i.e. regarding science, only mainstream science is allowed, fringe/pseudoscience is not allowed). n.b.
