Comprehensive Supernova Catalog: Redshift, DM, DM Err & Position Data

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the search for a comprehensive catalog of type Ia supernovae that includes redshift, distance modulus, distance modulus error, and position data in galactic coordinates. Participants share resources and suggestions for locating such a catalog.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses difficulty in finding a supernova catalog that includes all desired information, noting that existing resources provide only partial data.
  • Another participant suggests checking SIMBAD or NED as potential sources, though they are uncertain about the completeness of the information available there.
  • A later reply indicates that the participant found the needed information on the VizieR website, describing it as the most comprehensive supernova catalog encountered.
  • Another participant agrees that VizieR is a valuable resource for astronomical catalogs and specifically mentions Catalog J/ApJ/716/712 as likely containing the sought-after data.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree that VizieR is a useful resource for astronomical data, but there is no consensus on the completeness of other suggested sources like SIMBAD or NED.

Contextual Notes

Some participants mention specific catalogs and resources but do not clarify the limitations or completeness of the data they provide.

Who May Find This Useful

Astronomy enthusiasts, researchers looking for supernova data, and students working on related projects may find this discussion beneficial.

I need a list of type Ia supernova with redshifts, Distance Modulus, Distance modulus error, and position in galactic coordinates, but I havn't been able to find one that has all of that information (I have found several with some of the information, but not all of it). Does anyone know where I can find a supernova catalog with all of this?

EDIT: I already looked here (http://supernova.lbl.gov/), which had the redshift and distance modulus data but not position data, and here (http://heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov/W3Browse/all/asiagosn.html), which had the opposite. I tried merging the list but it seems as though the reported supernova names are slightly different (or I'm just unable of merging them properly).

Thanks!

You might try SIMBAD or NED but I'm not sure if they will have exactly what you need.

Yes, Vizier is always a good place for astronomical catalogs. Catalog J/ApJ/716/712, among others, is probably what you are seeking.
