SUMMARY

The discussion centers on a recurring issue where computers freeze when the screensaver activates after a period of inactivity. Users reported that the screensaver causes graphical glitches and system freezes, particularly on Windows XP. A definitive solution involves using the Windows Registry Editor (regedit) to navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop and setting the ScreenSaveActive value to zero, effectively disabling the screensaver without needing to interact with it. This method is applicable to later versions of Windows as well.

After about 10 minutes of not moving the mouse or typing, my screensaver comes on, and the colors are kinda messed up and the computer freezes.
I tried just disabling the screensaver, but whenever I go to the thing that let's me disable the screensaver, the screensaver comes up on a little window to show me what it looks like, and the computer freezes.
Is there any way to disable the screensaver without actually having to see the screensaver?

For Windows XP, use regedit, look for folder

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

and change the data value for

ScreenSaveActive

to zero.

There should be similar entries for later versions of windows.

Thanks.
