SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on a physics problem involving constructive interference of coherent light waves from two sources. The distances from the sources to the detector are 1.50000 mm and 1.50660 mm. The relevant equation used is ΔL = mλ, where ΔL is the path difference, m is an integer, and λ is the wavelength. The valid wavelengths for visible light identified in the discussion are 600 nm and 660 nm, as they satisfy the condition for constructive interference.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of coherent light sources
  • Knowledge of constructive interference principles
  • Familiarity with the wavelength of visible light
  • Ability to apply the equation ΔL = mλ
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the properties of coherent light sources
  • Study the principles of wave interference
  • Learn about the visible light spectrum and its wavelengths
  • Explore practical applications of interference in optics
USEFUL FOR

Students studying physics, particularly those focusing on wave optics, as well as educators seeking to explain concepts of interference and wavelength in visible light.

Homework Statement

Two sources produce coherent light waves that come together at a detector located 1.50000 mm from one source and 1.50660 mm from the other. If the two waves interfere constructively, what is(are) a possible value(s) for the wavelength? Assume the light is visible light. (Select all that apply.)

629 nm 660 nm 600 nm 535 nm 300 nm

Homework Equations

(presumably)v∆L= mλ

The Attempt at a Solution

I figured ∆L/λ gave integers for 660nm, 600nm, and 300nm, but apparently those aren't the right answers

Not all of those wavelengths lie in the range for visible light.

OK, got it. Thanks!
