SUMMARY

Cosmology and physical cosmology are distinct yet related fields. Cosmology encompasses the study of the universe as a whole, while physical cosmology specifically focuses on the large-scale structure and dynamics of the universe, along with its observable properties. The term "physical" is not redundant, as it highlights the application of physical laws to cosmological phenomena. For further details, refer to the Wikipedia pages on physical cosmology and related resources.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic cosmological concepts
  • Familiarity with physical laws governing the universe
  • Knowledge of large-scale structure in astrophysics
  • Awareness of observational techniques in cosmology
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the principles of general relativity and their implications for cosmology
  • Explore the latest findings in large-scale structure formation
  • Study observational methods used in physical cosmology, such as redshift surveys
  • Investigate the role of dark matter and dark energy in the universe's dynamics
USEFUL FOR

Astronomers, astrophysicists, students of physics, and anyone interested in the fundamental structure and dynamics of the universe.

Is there a difference between cosmology and physical cosmology? The two have separate wikipedia pages which seem to say essentially the same thing. Also, cosmology is obviously a branch of physics, so is "physical" redundant?
