The scope includes imaginative representations of galaxies, stars, and other cosmic phenomena in a whimsical manner, potentially targeting a younger audience.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Conceptual clarification
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants suggest that the idea of using cookies to represent the universe could be a fun and engaging concept for a children's book.

  • One participant humorously suggests that black holes could be represented by cookie monsters or machines that turn wood into mulch, raising questions about suitable symbols.
  • A poem about the moon being a cookie is shared, adding a literary element to the discussion.
  • Dark matter is suggested to be represented as dark chocolate chips, with some participants expressing agreement with this idea.
  • There is a mention of incorporating recent scientific concepts, such as quantum mechanics and dark matter, into the narrative to make it more relevant and educational.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree that the concept of "The Cookie Universe" is a fun and creative idea, particularly for a children's book. However, there are competing views on how to represent certain cosmic phenomena, such as black holes, and the discussion remains open-ended regarding the best symbols and metaphors to use.

So I want to write a book or start a website called "The Cookie Universe".
It basically explains the way the universe works, but in cookes! (Mmm...cookies...)

Like galaxies are just giant cookies that we all live in. The stars are simply the white chocolate chunks that make the bigger cookie galaxy more tasty and interesting! And not to mention the delicious frosted goodness that are Nebulas. Especially with sprinkles...mmmm...

I havn't gotten all the details down, but I thought it would be kinda funny/fun. What do you guys think?

I don't know if you're joking or not, but I actually think this would be a great idea for a children's book. Especially if we dunk the Cookie Galaxy in the Milky Way Galaxy and eat it later

Exactly! The collision of the two galaxies is now something to look forward to instead of dread!

lol i didn't think of it that way...
but what will you use to symbolize black holes? If you will use something...the cookie monster is already taken and I think not a good symbol anyways. Those machines that turn wood into mulch would be better but maybe too drastic.

The Moon's the North Wind's Cookie by Vachel Lindsay

The Moon's the North Wind's cookie.
He bites it, day by day,
Until there's but a rim of scraps
That crumble all away.

The South Wind is a baker.
He kneads clouds in his den,
And bakes a crisp new moon that . . . greedy
North . . . Wind . . . eats . . . again!

And the black holes are the cookie monsters?? :-p

Yes OK, colliding galaxies are all very well but when Sir Patrick Moore does this sort of thing there is this majestic portentious mysterious music! (Holst?)

I think this is a brilliant idea. Fun and relaxing to do. When I'm learning something (I find) difficult, I try to explain every last detail in it's simplest terms, then think "I could write it as though it was for a child" (then even I could understand it). Given my current learning kick, "Toplogy for Children" may not catch on, (Mmm...doughnuts...), but you sound like you are onto a winner. I've had an ambition to get published since my early teens. Maybe one day. If not, then just for the fun of it.

Thanks for the replies all!

Wouldn't it be great if it did?

Cookies with sparkles!

Go for it.

What about Lemon Chalet Cremes? Somoas? Thin Mints?

I've depleted my stock of Lemon Chalet Cremes.

One simply has to find the right angle.

Good on you! And (maybe) keep the kids up to date -- see some recent suggestions that tie "QM-surface research" with dying stars and dark matter. Three problems, one solution, sort of thing.

Perhaps more real than BHs? And relevant to childish thoughts re life and death?

PS: I can't find it just now, and must run. Just 2c. for now, from a real lolly-monster.
