Creative destruction examples

AI Thread Summary
Creative destruction often occurs when new technologies disrupt established power structures, empowering the masses at the expense of elites. Notable examples include Napster, which revolutionized music sharing and challenged the music industry's control, and the printing press, which democratized information access and diminished the Church's authority. Television also significantly shifted power dynamics by providing widespread access to information, though its impact on information quality is debated. Overall, these technologies illustrate how innovation can undermine elite control and redistribute power among the general population.

Does anyone know of any creative destruction examples where a new technology undermined the power of a group of elites that seemed to be holding all the cards? Thanks!

In terms of the amount of raw power it put in the hands of the masses only TV's done it better. The massive quantity of information is indisputable but the quality?

Historian seeks recognition for first English king https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c9d07w50e15o Somewhere I have a list of Anglo-Saxon, Wessex and English kings. Well there is nothing new there. Parts of Britain experienced tribal rivalries/conflicts as well as invasions by the Romans, Vikings/Norsemen, Angles, Saxons and Jutes, then Normans, and various monarchs/emperors declared war on other monarchs/emperors. Seems that behavior has not ceased.
