SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on the credit hour system, specifically explaining GPA (Grade Point Average), SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average), CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average), and quality points. A grade point is calculated based on the assessment marks corresponding to letter grades (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0) multiplied by the course units. For instance, in a scenario where a student earns a C in a 3-unit course and an A in a 5-unit course, the GPA is derived from the total grade points (29) divided by the total units (8), resulting in a GPA of 3.625.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of the credit hour system
  • Familiarity with letter grades and their corresponding grade points
  • Basic arithmetic skills for calculating averages
  • Knowledge of course unit values
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the differences between GPA, SGPA, and CGPA
  • Learn about the implications of quality points on academic performance
  • Explore methods for improving GPA through course selection
  • Investigate institutional policies regarding grade calculations
USEFUL FOR

A grade point is about the number of hours per week that a class meets for instruction during an 18 week semester. An assessment mark of 4, 3, 2, 1, 0 correspond to letter grades of A, B, C, D, F. Grade Point Average is the (trouble expressing this properly) assessment mark for each hour divided by the total number of grade points.

An example will clarify what I mean.
NameOfCourse01 is 3 units; NameOfCourse02 is 5 units.
You earn C for Course01, and earn A for Course02. Total units is 3+5=8.
Grades earned gave you 3*3 + 5*4 = 9 + 20 = 29,
so for this semester, GPA is 29/8 (do the arithmetic, get 3 point something...)

What I should have said is grade points are the letter grade as a value multiplied by the number of units; so in my example above, 29 grade points.
