What/where is the current research being done in set theory? I’ve been looking into grad programs but I can’t seem to find any that allow for set theory as an area of research. Does anyone know of any (preferably in California)?

I don't tihnk you can be that retrictive. You have to go where the people are, and Set Theory is not one of the glamour areas and there are fewer people studying it.

One thing to do might be to search for a set theory conference on the net and look at the participants and their talks. This will give you a good idea of who is doing what and where.
