SUMMARY

The discussion centers around a serious injury sustained while using a cutting disc on a 60 mm stainless steel shaft, resulting in a deep cut to the user's finger. The incident highlights the dangers of cutting discs, which are known for their brittleness and potential to explode under stress. Participants emphasize the importance of wearing appropriate safety gear, including gloves, safety goggles, and protective clothing, to prevent injuries. Recommendations for safer cutting techniques and equipment adjustments are also provided, including using thicker discs and maintaining proper alignment during cuts.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of rotary tools and their operation
  • Knowledge of safety equipment such as gloves and goggles
  • Familiarity with cutting techniques for metal materials
  • Awareness of the properties of cutting discs, including brittleness and RPM limits
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the specifications and safety features of cutting discs for rotary tools
  • Learn about proper cutting techniques to minimize the risk of disc failure
  • Explore the use of thicker and reinforced cutting discs for enhanced safety
  • Investigate the best practices for wearing and maintaining personal protective equipment (PPE) during metalworking tasks
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for metalworkers, DIY enthusiasts, and anyone using rotary tools for cutting tasks, particularly those seeking to improve safety practices and reduce the risk of injury.

I have fun trying to do electrical work without throwing the breaker to 'off'.

You can safely check to see if the breaker is off by touching a bare wire with the back of your hand. If the wire is hot the jolt will jerk your hand back away from the wire.

This can be painful. The higher the voltage the bigger the jerk Not recommended for 440 volts
