Deriving Concepts of Tachyons: Speed, Energy & c

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the theoretical properties of tachyons, which are hypothetical particles that always travel faster than the speed of light (c). Key concepts include the assertion that tachyons speed up as they lose energy and slow down as they gain energy, alongside the claim that it requires an infinite amount of energy to decelerate them to the speed of light. The conversation emphasizes the need for credible sources and clear definitions when discussing these complex ideas.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of special relativity and its implications on speed and energy.
  • Familiarity with quantum field theory and hypothetical particles.
  • Knowledge of energy-mass equivalence as described by Einstein's theory.
  • Ability to critically evaluate scientific literature and sources.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the implications of tachyons in quantum field theory.
  • Explore the concept of superluminal particles and their theoretical frameworks.
  • Study Einstein's theory of relativity, focusing on energy-mass equivalence.
  • Investigate reputable scientific literature on tachyons and their properties.
USEFUL FOR

Physicists, students of theoretical physics, and anyone interested in advanced concepts of particle physics and the implications of faster-than-light travel.

I've read somewhere that hypothetical tachyons always travel faster than c, speed up when they lose energy, and slow down when they gain energy.

And that it takes an infinite amount of energy to slow tachyons down to c.

How did they derive all these concepts?

Not an easy question to answer if you won't tell us where "somewhere" is and who "they" are.
This thread is closed, but a more carefully framed question based on something that you've read in a moderately reputable source would be welcome.
