describe what I call "debatophilia"

Is there an official term to describe what I call "debatophilia", or a love of argument and debate?

Just curious because whatever term there is would describe me well. I'm a lover of debate, and often read just the politics sections of newspapers... Although the people there are pretty bad at it. Too much false information.

Do you have a statistical study reference proving this bold statement ?

Where I'm from, it seems to be called "unemployed".

The part of the newspaper I am referring to is the letters section. Sorry if I didn't make that clear. Which I didn't.

So sorry.

And I got a guy who said Democrats have been in office for 80 of the past 100 years... Turns out to be exactly 50. And half of the people must be wrong, because every letter is refuted.

It's called being Iranian.

I am not unemployed. This must not apply to me then.

Nor am I Iranian. And I always thought I was more argumentative than the average person. It is nice to know I am normal.

In most cases, the ultimate purpose of debates is to look smart.

To me it is to test my knowledge to see if it holds, I hate to be wrong even if just I would notice and debating is a really good way to find out if you are wrong or not. Or not really, since it seems like most sucks at arguing :/ I have noticed that I can easily win arguments even though I am wrong and I really hate it.

Yes, I call it "youngest in a big family".

You learn to defend yourself or you accept your role as a hat rack.
