Do carburetor cars need oxygen sensor ?

AI Thread Summary
Carbureted cars can have oxygen sensors, particularly those with electronically adjustable jets, which help maintain a proper fuel/air ratio for catalytic converters. Some models, like certain Honda cars from the 1980s, utilized programmable carburetors that incorporated O2 sensors. The discussion highlights the transition from feedback carburetors to electronic fuel injection, emphasizing the technological advancements in fuel management. Understanding the role of O2 sensors in these vehicles is crucial for maintaining emissions standards. Overall, while not all carbureted cars have O2 sensors, their presence can enhance performance and compliance with regulations.

Hi all,

I just hear from a friend that in carburetored cars there are still O2 sensors (not all cars). I not sure the purpose of O2 sensor in this case. Could anyone help ?

Thanks

Some carbureted cars had electronically adjustable jets and used an O2 sensor to maintain a stoichiometric fuel/air ratio for the catalytic convertor.

Thanks insightful.
I have searched myself and find that some Honda car during the 1980s used programmable carburetor.

Hi all, I have a question. So from the derivation of the Isentropic process relationship PV^gamma = constant, there is a step dW = PdV, which can only be said for quasi-equilibrium (or reversible) processes. As such I believe PV^gamma = constant (and the family of equations) should not be applicable to just adiabatic processes? Ie, it should be applicable only for adiabatic + reversible = isentropic processes? However, I've seen couple of online notes/books, and...
I have an engine that uses a dry sump oiling system. The oil collection pan has three AN fittings to use for scavenging. Two of the fittings are approximately on the same level, the third is about 1/2 to 3/4 inch higher than the other two. The system ran for years with no problem using a three stage pump (one pressure and two scavenge stages). The two scavenge stages were connected at times to any two of the three AN fittings on the tank. Recently I tried an upgrade to a four stage pump...
