SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on effective methods for microbial sampling from the feet of students aged 13-14. The Williamson and Kligman methods were mentioned as potential sampling techniques, but the emphasis is on creating a safe and user-friendly sampling kit for approximately 50 children. Recommended materials include sterile Q-tips and sterile sealable bags, with specific sampling areas identified as between the toes, under the nails, and the bottom edges of the feet for contamination analysis.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of microbial sampling techniques
  • Familiarity with the Williamson and Kligman methods
  • Knowledge of sterile handling procedures
  • Basic microbiological concepts related to foot microbes
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the Williamson and Kligman methods in detail
  • Learn about sterile sampling techniques for microbiological studies
  • Investigate best practices for microbial contamination sampling
  • Explore the use of Q-tips in microbial sampling protocols
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for microbiologists, educators conducting student research, and health professionals interested in microbial analysis and safe sampling methods.

Can anyone tell on how to take microbial sample from the feet of students (13-14 year olds).I have searched about many methods like williamson and kligman method but do not know the best method to carry out the sampling.I intend to give separate kits to the children (around 50) so that they can do the sampling from the feet on their own at different specified times,so it shoul be quite safe and easy to use.

Use sterile q-tips and sterile sealable bags, giving test areas a nice rub. Are you looking for bottom of foot contamination or just normal foot microbes? The heaviest areas would be inbetween the toes and under the nails, but if you are looking for picked up contaminations then I'd sample the bottom edges of the feet
