In electrolysis of nacl where is sodium? Ok clorine is producing as gas but sodium?
The electrolysis of sodium chloride (NaCl) solution primarily produces chlorine gas at the anode and hydrogen gas at the cathode, with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) forming in the solution due to the reaction of sodium with water. When using a mercury electrode, sodium can be reduced to sodium amalgam, avoiding reaction with water. However, in aqueous solutions, sodium does not appear as a product because it reacts spontaneously with water to produce hydrogen gas and NaOH. The electrolysis of molten NaCl is the only method to obtain sodium metal directly without water interference.
