Electronic Eng. Technology and EE

SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the implications of pursuing an Electrical Engineering (EE) degree that is not ABET accredited, in contrast to an ABET-accredited Electronic Engineering Technology (EET) degree. The participant expresses concern about the potential impact on eligibility for the Professional Engineer (PE) exam. It is established that while the EET degree is accredited, the lack of accreditation for the EE degree could hinder future opportunities, particularly for those aiming to take the PE exam.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of ABET accreditation standards
  • Familiarity with the Professional Engineer (PE) exam requirements
  • Knowledge of degree programs in engineering
  • Awareness of the differences between Electronic Engineering Technology and Electrical Engineering
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the specific requirements for the PE exam in your state
  • Investigate the implications of ABET accreditation on career opportunities in engineering
  • Explore the curriculum differences between EET and EE programs
  • Learn about alternative pathways to obtaining an accredited EE degree
USEFUL FOR

So at my school they have Electronic Engineering Technology & Electrical Engineering. However, the EET program is ABET accredited but the EE is not. They have the option of completing the EET degree then taking an additional 36 credits for the EE degree. So I'd have an ABET accredited degree in EET, so would it even matter if my EE degree wasn't ABET accredited if I wanted to end up taking the PE exam some day?

I don't want to shoot myself in the foot with the EE degree not being ABET accredited. I have had people tell me DO NOT consider a school that doesn't have an ABET accredited EE program, but I figured since the EET degree is ABET accredited it should be okay.
