Embedding vector graphics in Word docs - vector field plots

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

This discussion focuses on the challenge of embedding vector graphics, specifically vector field plots, in Microsoft Word documents. The user mentions that while MathCAD effectively handles xy-plots, it struggles with vector fields commonly used in electrodynamics. Alternatives like Maple are noted for embedding graphics as bitmaps, which detracts from quality. The user seeks recommendations for software that can embed high-quality vector graphics in Word documents, particularly for vector fields.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of vector graphics and their applications in scientific documentation.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and its capabilities for embedding graphics.
  • Knowledge of MathCAD and its limitations regarding vector fields.
  • Basic understanding of electrodynamics and the representation of vector fields.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research software options that support vector graphics embedding in Word, such as LaTeX with TikZ.
  • Explore the capabilities of Inkscape for creating and exporting vector graphics.
  • Investigate the use of MATLAB for generating vector field plots and exporting them as vector graphics.
  • Learn about using Adobe Illustrator for creating high-quality vector graphics suitable for Word documents.
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for students, researchers, and professionals in fields such as physics and engineering who require high-quality vector graphics in their documentation, particularly those working with vector fields in electrodynamics.

I have a question: hope this fits under "Calculus" topic. I am trying to embed vector graphics in my Word documents. MathCAD does this quite nicely for xy-plots, but MathCAD is awkward for constructing vector fields like those you'd find in electrodynamics. I could use Maple, but those embeds graphics in Word documents as bitmaps, which are ugly.

Anyone know of a way around this? Is there any software that will support vector graphics embedded in Word documents that *can* handle vector fields? (Note the two different contexts of the word "vector"!)

Again: apologies if this post belongs elsewhere. I didn't know what to post it under...and "coursework questions" seemed appropriate.

"coursework questions" is for students needing help with homework.

Do you have a suggestion for where I should put this post?
