Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the topology of Fermi surfaces, specifically referencing a compilation of data available on a website associated with the University of Florida. Participants explore the origins of the site, its contributors, and its potential usefulness in the field of physics.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation

Main Points Raised

  • One participant notes the existence of a website compiling Fermi surface topology data, questioning the affiliation of the contributors due to conflicting information about the institution.
  • Another participant mentions a specific individual, Alex Choy, who has ties to the University of Florida and is currently a Postdoc, suggesting that the work on the site was conducted there.
  • There is an expression of hope that the site will continue to be updated, indicating its potential value as a resource for those in the field.
  • Participants comment on the aesthetic quality of the visual representations of the Fermi surfaces, with one speculating on the software used to create them.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the value of the website and its contributions to the field, but there is some uncertainty regarding the affiliations of the contributors and the future maintenance of the site.

Contextual Notes

There are unresolved questions regarding the exact institutional affiliations of the contributors and the implications for the site's ongoing updates.

This site has compiled the topology of fermi surfaces for a lot of material.

http://www.phys.ufl.edu/fermisurface/

The Science website and the contact e-mail at the end indicate that the people who are responsible for this are at Ohio State (Gokul, do you know any of them?), but it is obvious from the site url that it is at U. of Florida. Rather confusing.

Physics news on Phys.org
Nice compilation!

Alex Choy, who got his PhD from U. Fl, is a recently joined Postdoc under John Wilkins, here. Wilkins, who is on my Grad Committee, is (or was) Chair of APS DCMP. I think all the work on that site was done in Gainesville.

Ah, that explaiins it then. That's why the site is still at ufl. I hope he gets to update that ufl site even when he's no longer there. This database can be such a useful tool for many people in this area of physics.

It seems not too bad. Very beautiful pictures. :-)

they look like they were made with opendx (Data Explorer)?

very nice..i wish i could print the full color poster :)

You are from the Mars! thanks
