fibre optic amplifier??

anyone heard of fibre optic amplifier before or not?

Of course there are optical amplifiers, how do you suppose fiber optic communication lines work? I believe that the output of a fiber optic is fed to a photo diode, the output of this can be amplified with standard circuitry the amplified signal is fed to a LED which is located at the input of the next stretch of fiber optic.
