The discussion centers around Fisher's riddle, which poses the question of what is caught and thrown away versus what is kept. The answer presented is "mistakes," highlighting the idea that errors are often discarded in the process of fishing. Another participant suggests "fleas" as an alternative answer, noting that it is easier to visualize fleas being caught and discarded rather than mistakes. The conversation reflects on the nature of the riddle and the interpretations of its answer.

This is not a logic puzzle, but just an old riddle I happen to like, called the Fisher's riddle.

The ones we catch we throw away.
The ones we don't catch we keep.

What are they catching and not catching?

Good BicycleTree. I like the answer, fleas, a little better because it's a little hard to imagine a mistake that a fisher could make and then throw away.
