Fluid Mechanics Demo - Help choose dye

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on selecting a dye for glycerine to be used in a fluid mechanics demonstration. The user has opted for glycerine due to the unavailability of corn syrup, which is typically used for flow visualization. They seek recommendations for suitable dyes, specifically asking if food coloring would be an appropriate choice for coloring glycerine.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of fluid mechanics principles
  • Familiarity with viscosity and its effects on fluid flow
  • Knowledge of dye compatibility with glycerine
  • Experience with fluid visualization techniques
NEXT STEPS
  • Research dye options compatible with glycerine
  • Explore the effects of viscosity on flow visualization
  • Investigate alternative substances for fluid demonstrations
  • Learn about the properties of food coloring in non-aqueous solutions
USEFUL FOR

Fluid mechanics educators, students conducting demonstrations, and anyone involved in fluid visualization techniques.

Hi,

I am planning to do this as a demo in my fluid mechanics class.

I've used glycerine as corn syrup isn't available. It seems to be transparent and viscous enough. Can anyone please suggest a dye? The video seems to be using coloured corn syrup for flow visualization. How can I colour my glycerine?

Please reply ASAP.
