SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on funding options for international students admitted to the Quantum Information Science & Technology master's program at TU Delft and Leiden University starting September 2026. The original poster, an Indonesian physics graduate working in IT, was unsuccessful in obtaining the QuTech scholarship and cannot self-fund the two-year program. Key advice includes contacting the university's financial aid office and program coordinators for tailored funding guidance. Additionally, exploring scholarships from the student's home country and investigating the availability of teaching assistant (TA) or research assistant (RA) positions at TU Delft are recommended practical steps.

PREREQUISITES

  • Understanding of international scholarship application processes for Dutch universities
  • Familiarity with the Quantum Information Science & Technology master's program structure at TU Delft and Leiden University
  • Knowledge of TA/RA roles and eligibility criteria for master's students at TU Delft
  • Awareness of home country scholarship schemes and their contractual obligations

NEXT STEPS

  • Contact TU Delft and Leiden University financial aid offices for specific scholarship and funding opportunities
  • Research TA/RA position availability and application procedures for master's students at TU Delft
  • Investigate Indonesian government or private scholarships for studying abroad with conditions on post-study employment
  • Review terms and conditions of any external scholarships to ensure compliance with return and work requirements

USEFUL FOR

International master's students in quantum science or physics programs, particularly those admitted to TU Delft or Leiden University, seeking funding strategies. Also valuable for academic advisors and university financial aid officers assisting non-EU students with scholarship navigation and employment-based funding options.

I've been admitted to the Quantum Information Science & Technology master's program (joint TU Delft and Leiden University) starting September 2026, but I'm still working on securing funding.

I'm an Indonesian student (non-EU) with a physics undergraduate degree, and I'm currently working professionally in IT. I applied for the QuTech scholarship but it appears unsuccessful, and I'm unable to self-fund the 2-year program.

I'm looking for advice on other scholarships for international quantum/physics master's students in the Netherlands that I should explore, whether master's students can get TA/RA positions at TU Delft to offset costs, and realistic options for international students in this situation.

Any guidance from those who've navigated similar funding challenges would be greatly appreciated.

As a first step, I would recommend contacting the University and it's financial aid department. They'll be in the best position to advise you on your options.

OP: As recommended in Reply #2, contacting the university program in the Netherlands that admitted you should be your first step. You should also check whether funding options are available from your home country (Indonesia). If there are, check carefully the terms and conditions (such as returning to Indonesia after you finish your education and working for at least X years).
