Discussion Overview

The thread revolves around a guessing game related to an astronomical object, with participants attempting to identify the object based on a photograph. The discussion includes various guesses and a revelation about the actual subject of the image.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant guesses that the object is Earth's moon.
  • Another participant suggests it might be a very young star with a planetary disk and inquires about the source of the photograph.
  • A different guess is made, proposing that the object is a pulsar.
  • One participant reveals that the object is indeed the moon, specifically noting a contrail in the image, which was taken with a camera phone at night.
  • Subsequent comments express disappointment over the reveal and a humorous request for internet access.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus, as there are multiple guesses about the identity of the astronomical object before the actual answer is revealed.

Contextual Notes

The discussion includes assumptions about the nature of the object based on visual interpretation, and the context of the photograph is dependent on the participant's personal experience and equipment used.

Earth's moon?

I'm going to guess a very young star with a planetary disk.

Who/What took the picture?

Pulsar.

First post ruined my fun. It is in fact the moon with a contrail through the middle. I took it on a camera phone late at night.
