AI Thread Summary
A user is preparing for a research project on Space Weather and seeks recommendations for books and papers on Solar Physics. Several key texts are suggested, including "Solar Astrophysics" by Foukal, "The Sun and Space Weather" by Hanslmeier, and "Introduction to Space Weather" by Moldwin. Other notable mentions include "Space Weather Fundamentals" by Khazanov and "Magnetohydrodynamics" by Cowling. Popular science resources like "The Sun, the Earth and Near-Earth Space" by Eddy and a series of papers by Strong et al. on understanding Space Weather are also highlighted. A user adds "Introduction to Space Physics" by Kivelson and Russell as a valuable resource, noting it requires knowledge of upper-division undergraduate electrodynamics. Overall, the discussion provides a range of foundational and advanced materials for studying Solar Physics and Space Weather.

Hi, I'm planning to embark on a minor research project on Space Weather with a Professor. As part of getting ready for the project, I've been tasked to study certain important aspects of Solar Physics & understand conceptual ideas. Can anybody recommend good books or even descriptive papers on introductory-intermediate Solar Physics?

I shall be very grateful.

That’s a mighty broad topic.
From poking around the web:

Foukal Solar Astrophysics
Hanslmeier The Sun and Space Weather
Moldwin Introduction to Space Weather
Khazanov Space Weather Fundamentals
Cowling Magnetohydrodynamics

popularizations
Eddy The Sun, the Earth and Near-Earth Space

Hi, Thank you so much. Such awesome recommendations, really really helpful for a solid primer on the topic!

For the following four books, has anyone used them in a course or for self study? Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
