Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around graphing the differential equation y' = y - x + 1 using the TI Nspire CX CAS calculator. Participants are exploring the input methods and settings required to successfully display the graph.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation, Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant asks how to graph the equation y' = y - x + 1 on the TI Nspire CX CAS.
  • Another participant references a resource that may assist with the graphing process.
  • Several participants express difficulty in inputting the function into the calculator, specifically mentioning issues with the syntax used (e.g., y1 = y - x + 1).
  • A participant questions whether the window coordinates are set correctly to display the graph and inquires about the behavior of the function when traced.
  • One participant reports that they were able to graph the function but encountered issues after closing the document without changing any settings.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

The discussion reflects a lack of consensus on the correct method to input the function and graph it, with multiple participants experiencing similar issues and uncertainties regarding the calculator's settings.

Contextual Notes

Participants have not resolved the specific input syntax or settings required for successful graphing, and there are indications of missing assumptions regarding the calculator's configuration.

how do i graph y'=y-x+1 on ti nspire cx cas.

This looks like a good reference.

the example they use is simple. I can't input f(x)=y-x+1 into the calculator. when i try y1=y-x+1, nothing shows up on the screen

Are you sure you have the window coordinates defined such that the plot passes through it? What happens when you trace the function?

I'm not sure. But I did it and the graph showed up and then I mistakenly closed the document, I didn't change any settings but I wasn't able to do it again.
