Gravity: Contraction of Space?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the misconception that gravity is a physical contraction of space. According to General Relativity, gravity is not a contraction but rather a distortion of spacetime caused by massive objects. The forum moderator emphasizes adherence to established scientific principles and discourages personal theories. Members are directed to educational resources, specifically videos by member @A.T., for accurate information on gravity.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of General Relativity
  • Familiarity with spacetime concepts
  • Knowledge of gravitational theory
  • Basic physics principles
NEXT STEPS
  • Watch @A.T.'s videos on General Relativity
  • Research the mathematical framework of spacetime distortion
  • Explore the implications of gravity on time dilation
  • Study the effects of mass on spacetime curvature
USEFUL FOR

Students of physics, educators, and anyone seeking a deeper understanding of gravitational theory and spacetime concepts.

Specifically, what I am wondering is gravity considered to be a physical contraction of space? For instance the space between any two points A and B shrinks as gravity grows stronger. Is this the right concept?

Gravity, according to General Relativity, is a side-effect caused by the distortion of the local spacetime around a massive object.

No.
We can talk about what gravity is, but any discussion that starts with a question about something else that gravity might be instead is on the wrong side of the forum rule prohibiting posting personal theories.

Thus we are closing this thread, but if you want to learn what gravity is I highly recommend our own member @A.T.'s videos, which you'll find in many threads here.
