How did you find PF?
I found this site via a Google search.
Hello everyone! This is a much different part of the internet than I usually visit! I want to start with the fact that I am not a student, and never was beyond high school. I've always had an interest in physics, specifically, but the money was never there to pursue it in the way I thought it must be pursued. Life, then, gets in the way, you know?
It wasn't until recently that I even found this site, and even now, I'm a bit unsure of where I am. I arrived here after a sleepless night, where I let my mind wander. In such times, I like to develop theories about things. Sometimes they are fantastical, such as "What if a fungus has infected all beings and we are just acting under its control?" (Ask me about it, I've got a lot to explain!) To "What if, in string theory, it was more like bracelet theory?"
I have no clue which, if any, rules of physics, nature, or anything else my theories violate. That's a big part of why I'm here. To learn. I want to know the WHY my thinking and theories may be flawed, and from there, I want to continue think-tanking until I create something either potentially plausible or hilariously fantastical, but set in realisty that it is almost an escape from the world today. I just want to have fun and understand the world around us. This seems like the most accepting place of all levels, which was my deciding factor in registering.

It's nice to meet all of you!

I also don’t have any serious education behind me. I also like to let my imagination meander wildly. Be aware though, that this forum is heavily and mercilessly moderated and free speculation and non-mainstream personal theories are frowned upon. Make sure you read the site’s rules and guidelines before engaging.

Welcome though!

Thank you for the warm welcome! While I would love to post my theories and then get feedback about why I am wrong, (Which, if you have any site recommendations for this, I am open to those!) I think I want to use this site as a place to independently research if I am wrong. I haven't been lurking for many days, but the people here seem to be friendly enough to guide instead of just chastise. Truth be told, I'm still browsing the guidelines as there is much more than on typical forums I've joined!
Are you enjoying your time here?

Indeed. And I have been for many years. More and more so as a matter of fact. As you say people here are friendly, highly educated and willing to teach - if, that is, you respect the rules!

I’ve received more than one methaphorical spanking with a slide rule for being too lazy to internalize the rules properly.

Now don’t let me scare you off but a lot of people here are also professional and suffer fools (and worse: lazyness) badly!

Welcome to PF.

I will send you a DM with some websites that do allow speculation. We definitely do not allow personal speculation here at PF. This is a great place to discuss and learn about mainstream science, as published the professional scientific literature (mainstream textbooks and peer-reviewed journals).

Enjoy PF!
