Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around the application of algebra to simplify expressions, specifically focusing on the left-hand side of an equation involving square roots.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Assumption checking

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants explore the simplification of the expression 1 + sqrt(2) + sqrt(3) + sqrt(6) and discuss the relationship between sqrt(6) and the product of sqrt(2) and sqrt(3). Some participants express uncertainty about the effectiveness of this approach.

Discussion Status

The conversation includes attempts to clarify the usefulness of a hint regarding factoring the left-hand side. There is a lack of consensus on whether the hint provided is beneficial, with some participants indicating it did not assist in solving the problem.

Contextual Notes

Participants are reminded of forum guidelines regarding problem presentation, emphasizing the importance of typing out the problem and avoiding thumbnails.

Look at the lefthand side 1 +sqrt(2) + sqrt(3) + sqrt(6)

and recall that sqrt(6) = sqrt(2) * sqrt(3)

Does that help?

I'm not sure if my hint will help but it is a curious connection to simplify the lefthand side into factors.

so it didn't help you factor the LHS or it didn't help you with the problem as a whole?

Do not post thumbnails. Type out the problem and the solution. Read the 'pinned' thread "Guidlines for students and helpers" by Vela, which explains the reason for this policy.
