AI Thread Summary
Five UK quarts are approximately equal to six US quarts, indicating that one UK quart is roughly 1.2 US quarts. The discussion revolves around determining which option best represents this conversion. Participants clarify that since one UK quart is larger than one US quart, options below one US quart can be eliminated. The conclusion drawn is that 1 UK quart is closest to 1.2 US quarts. Understanding this conversion helps in accurately comparing UK and US quart measurements.

Well I inferred that 1 UK quart must be something closer to 2 US quarts. But the inference was not correct.

If it were near 2 US quarts then you'd expect 5 UK quarts to be about 9 US quarts.

We are told that 5 UK quarts is near 6 US ones so it follows that a US quart is smaller than a UK one - that means we can eliminate any answer which is less than 1.

Do you know a way to change 5 UK quarts into 1 UK quart?

I understand that you can get the answer by trying all options. But I am not finding it through actually working it out.

I would begin with:

$$5\text{ UK quarts}\approx6\text{ US quarts}$$

Now, what should you do so that you have 1 UK quart on the left side?

Thanks. I really didn't see the need for Algebra in this problem up until now.
