How do i learn derivations and diagrams?

I study ncert physics class 12.
Is there any special way you rote learned all the diagrams and derivations?
(for example they ask in board exam that explain the working and principle of cyclotron and draw its diagram.
Very hard to remember.)

If you understand why components are there and how it works it is easy to remember.

The good textbook should show useful sketches and diagrams. Also students are expected, as part of their routine exercises, to draw diagrams...
